Although the website is our new baby, DSP has been alive and well on our eBay platform delighting buyers with lovely experiences.
What we offer isn’t only a phonograph, part or a record, sometimes it’s a moment waiting to happen.
A customer shared this beautiful story with us after a Christmas Eve with her family.
Eighteen members of her dad’s family—children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—were gathered at the house. Before dinner, she announced that she’d found a song her two young grandsons, just three and two years old, loved to dance to.
She placed the record on the phonograph.
The little boys danced. The adults watched. And her dad listened.
Her Dad knew the story behind the record. He knew how nervous she had been to play it, wondering whether he might already have a copy. But as the music played, something unexpected happened.
Her dad began to recognize the song.
Then the singing started.
He stopped.
He tilted his head and looked at her.
“Where did you get that?”
Then he put his hand over his chest and, through tears, said:
“That’s my dad.”
The room went quiet.
Her father, now 76, had not heard that song since he was a small child. The record recording was his own father along with his band. His father used to play it for him often, he remembered but somewhere along the way, the record was lost.
For decades, the song existed only as a memory.
Until that Christmas Eve.
And suddenly, a room full of children and grandchildren weren’t just listening to an old record.
They were hearing a piece of their family’s history.
That’s what makes what we do at Deep South Phonographs so meaningful to us.
We love the machines, the craftsmanship, the history and the beauty of these old pieces. But the real magic happens when they become part of someone’s life again.
Sometimes, something as simple as placing a needle on an old record can bring someone back to a moment they thought was gone forever.
That’s more than music.
It’s a moment to cherish.
